What is Philanthropy? Philanthropy is an ancient word dating back to the Greeks. Philanthropy (phil, love + anthropos, man) literally means love for mankind. More generally it has come to mean acts which are performed, voluntarily, to improve the welfare of one's fellow human beings. To the ancient Greeks, and certainly to Share & Care philanthropy is an essential ingredient of community life; political participation and contributions to the community –all considered to be the highest forms of "the good." At Share & Care we believe in being effective Philanthropists. That means philanthropy that is successful at accumulating, managing, and then allocating financial and human resources in ways that has the greatest positive impact in the sector that we fund. To allocate resources effectively, we have a vision and strategies for grant applications that allow us to analyse issues and concerns we want to influence, identifying both challenges and potential resources. We ensure we structure our grants in a way that will be most useful to our successful applicants. Our partner in the VET (Vocational Educational Training) Scholastic Scholarship is Mr John Klassek, from Classic IT Support, whose generous donation of a computer to each years winning applicant ensures they have the best tools for research and work preparation. The excitement, the pride in the student and the immense pleasure we gain from seeing a student who would otherwise have left school achieve something they never believed they could is our reward. We at Share & Care firmly believe that by educating our youth, by providing them with leadership skills and a healthy self esteem create a base for a healthy community. These young adults will go on to be our leaders, inventors and the backbones of our communities -- we thank them for the opportunity to serve.
